Core Element is a unique, growing and complex event with multiple moving parts. Last year, we couldn’t have asked for a better team of staff and volunteers. We are so thankful to all of you who pulled together and made Core Element possible. This year, we are expanding roles to ensure our volunteers are more specialised and confident in their specific roles.

Volunteering at Core Element grants all volunteers a free sponsor entry ticket. You will not be expected to work more than 6 hours a day. This does not apply to all 4 days however. We are splitting volunteer roles from operation hours to setup and teardown. Please read below to discover our vacancies, and if you reckon you could fit into our team!

Roles.

Volunteering

Requirements:

We only hope for people to do 3 days or nights throughout the festival. For example, Setup day, Saturday, Teardown day. (Thursday, Saturday, Monday). Or, for those who are not as confident or able to do more physical work, you could do all event days only. If you wish to kick back and do both setup, teardown and one event day, thats cool too! If however, we have a shortage of staff on one day and a surplus of staff another, we will need to move people around. Unless of course, the reason for a volunteer wanting to do event days only is due to accessibility needs. We will do our best to ensure you have a fantastic time and are well looked after.

Benefits:

All staff and volunteers have access to our staff tent, where hot drinks, soft drinks and snacks will be available. Outlet plugs will also be available in this tent.

Staff will be welcome to camp in the staff area which sees less noise, and is where the staff tent will be situated. Staff will also be treated to a staff get together event on Thursday evening.

Setup and teardown:

Staff and volunteers will be required to assist in the setup and teardown of the festival. We have seen it right to separate these roles from operations, due to the fact that this role can be physically demanding and very active. Aspects you will be helping with:

  • Assisting in the erection of tents and the packing away of tents.

  • Helping the bar team with any extra hands

  • Putting up decorations and packing away.

  • Helping in populating the events and dealers tents with the items they require, and then packing these away. (Tables, chairs, extensions ect).

  • Being available to help, should a contractor need a couple of extra hands or runners.

  • Unloading and loading the vans.

  • Assisting in the setting up of any staff area bits, registration, and anything else.

Festival operations:

We have multiple roles available for the operations! With last year under our belt, we have a much better idea of where we need people and how many people we need for each area. Please find detailed information about the roles below.

Creature overseers.

(Area steward)

This is a dynamic and diverse role. You will be stationed within an area, working under a team lead for that area. You will be available to help attendees who have any requirements or questions. If it is something you cannot answer or do yourself, you will be required to pass the attendee onto the team lead who will look after the attendee. Area stewards may be required to do ‘runs’ from area to area, relay messages and assist in general operations. This roles is an ‘allrounder’. You are the ‘runners’ and assistants of the festival. Disclaimer: Running is an industry term, you will not be required to run anywhere!

There is also the role of ‘car park steward’, however this is a role which will only be active for short periods of time, specifically when guests are arriving in high numbers.

The forest wardens.

(Grounds maintenance)

This role is specifically relating to cleanliness and tidiness. Forest wardens will be required to walk the grounds, picking up any rubbish using litter pickers. Wardens will assist the ground manager in emptying the bins and depositing the contents into the skip. Wardens also make checks on the toilets, showers and hand wash stations, to ensure everything is clean and tidy. This role is physically active.

Potion merchant.

(Bar Crew)

This year we are looking for more additions to the exciting bar crew. We are looking for people with prior bar experience and mixologists. Our heads of bar are looking forwards to crafting our own cocktails this year, and are looking for people who understand the details when it comes to cocktails. Bar crew is social, fun and a bit crazy! You will be required to shout LAMP at least once.

Guardians of the gates.

(Gate and registration crew)

Outer gate crew will be joined by an SIA officer, to help check in cars. This involves asking cars to present tickets and IDs, then directing them to the carpark.

Registration desk includes working with SIA security members to check people into the festival. Registration involves checking peoples ID’s, finding ticket details and ensuring people get their standard, sponsor and VIP packages. This role will be fast paced on Friday afternoon and potentially Saturday when attendees arrive.

Keeper of the Showers.

(Shower steward)

This is a solo role where you will be stationed with the showers to take shower tokens and ensure people are leaving the showers in a timely fashion. This isn’t just to ensure we save the gas for the showers, it is to ensure the safety of those showering! If someone hasn’t come out of the shower in a while, there may be something wrong. Plus, it would be appreciated if the shower stewards keep an eye on the state of the showers themselves. Therefore, shower stewards need to be alert and approachable.

Team leads.

This is a specialist role which requires the applicant to have good people and leadership skills. Being a team lead involves managing and overseeing all volunteers within a specific area of the festival. This includes ensuring volunteers are at their posts, are on time and are alright. Volunteers will come to you first with any issues they are unsure about or unable to address by themselves. Your job will also be overseeing general operations within your area, keeping an eye on everything that is going on around you.

Adventure conductor.

(Events coordinator).

Events coordinators will stick to an allocated events schedule within their shift hours, bouncing from place, making sure the events all have what they need to run and are comfortable. This may include helping them set up, or just making sure they are where they are supposed to be. The events coordinator will be a direct point of contact for events, activities and acts.

Photography and videography… wizards.

We are looking for more photographers and we are very keen on having multiple dedicated videographers. Alongside roaming shifts, we are going to be allocating specific events, features and photoshoots to photographers and videographers. This role is more free form and autonomous.

Theatrics extraordinaire.

(Character and costume actors)

Interested in becoming part of the story? We have both speaking and non speaking roles! If love performing, interacting with people in character or just simply costuming, hit us up!
